Kids Jiu Jitsu Instructor | Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt

Cory Harvey is the Kids Jiu Jitsu Instructor at WaveMan Combat Academy and has trained under John McDowell for nearly seven years. A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt and experienced competitor, Cory has seen firsthand how Jiu Jitsu can develop both physical and mental strength.

Competition has been an important part of Cory’s journey. Years of testing himself on the mats have taught him the importance of preparation, perseverance, and remaining calm under pressure, lessons he works to pass along to the young students he coaches.

He brings that same approach to the mats at WaveMan.

Cory is also incredibly family oriented. He and his wife are raising three amazing children, and Jiu Jitsu has become something their entire family is involved in together in one way or another. That experience gives Cory a unique perspective as the instructor of our kids program. He understands Jiu Jitsu not only as a coach and competitor, but also as a husband and father who sees the value martial arts can bring to a family.

Cory believes the Kids Jiu Jitsu program is about much more than learning techniques. His goal is to create an environment where kids can have fun while developing confidence, discipline, resilience, respect, and the ability to work through challenges.

Every child learns differently and progresses at their own pace. Cory works to meet students where they are, help them understand the “why” behind what they are learning, and encourage them to keep growing both on and off the mats.

For Cory, success isn't simply creating better Jiu Jitsu practitioners. It's helping develop confident, capable young people through Jiu Jitsu, and giving families something they can grow through together.
